FREE training budget announcement

Due to the runaway success of the VSB our free training budget is now exhausted. We are working hard to secure funding for 2012, we'll keep you posted.

Dear Volunteer

Following the successful application to Sport England for funding, The Manchester Volunteer Sport Bureau was launched in December 2009. The project aimed to increase volunteering in sport and had an ambitious target of recruiting 500 volunteers. To date however, the project has managed to recruit and incredible 2000 volunteers who have provided clubs, schools and community groups with over 10,000 volunteer hours.

Due to the extraordinary success of the Manchester Volunteer Sport Bureau which has far exceeded all expectations, the funding we were awarded by Sport England has now been allocated to meet the demand for courses presented by 2000 volunteers. Therefore, at this time, we are currently unable to provide any further courses. This is with immediate effect.

Due to the success and huge demand, Manchester City Council has committed to continue with the scheme and meet the continued administrative and coordination costs. Therefore, the Bureau will continue to recruit volunteers and signpost them to opportunities within sports events, sports clubs, local communities, schools and facilities, allowing them to gain that vital volunteering experience.

We are working hard to ensure new investment is secured in time for 1st April 2012, to enable more courses to be held and we would like to encourage you to register your hours which will remain on your personal profile. As new investment is secured you will be permitted to use these hours in return for course places and therefore support your continued professional development.

Manchester City Council has a grant programme for coaching courses called 'Champions' Charter'. The grant must benefit Manchester residents and can only be granted to our focus sports. If you would like any further information on Champions Charter, then contact the Sports Specific Officer.

I would like to thank you for all your hard work and dedication and will provide you with a further update in due course.

Yours in sport

Craig Abel
Volunteer Development Officer
Manchester City Council
