Manchester VSB (VSB) take our obligations under the Data Protection Act (1998) very seriously.
We offer user registration to make it as easy as possible for you to apply online for volunteering opportunities.
Information you provide also helps us to tailor our service to users' needs. One copy of your completed form will come to us and one will go to the opportunity provider where you have shown interest.
The opportunity provider might forward your details to the organisation hosting the opportunity in order to take your application forward. Otherwise, the information will never be passed on to a third party without your permission.
We ask for information about disability and ethnicity to help us with equal opportunities monitoring.
Unless you choose to tick the relevant boxes, you will not receive further mailings other than a reply to your enquiry from the opportunity provider or opportunity host.
If you have any concerns or questions please contact us on 0161 219 2542
Why we ask for your date of birth
We ask for your date of birth for a number of reasons, which help us our partner organisations that provide volunteering opportunities:
- Not all volunteering opportunities are open to all age groups (e.g. some are specifically for young people or older people and many organisations cannot involve volunteers under the age of 16 etc) so it helps our partners place volunteers in appropriate opportunities;
- Our partner organisations need to ensure that they are involving all sections of their community and have to demonstrate this to their funders so they require date of birth to be included in the registration process. By supplying it here it means it is transferred directly on to the partner's database;
- It helps us monitor who is using Do-it. We have a stated aim of ensuring that we are reaching all sections of society.
Age discrimination laws do not currently apply to volunteering opportunities.
Manchester VSB will commit to finding each volunteer a placement as close to their aspirations as possible. It is our commitment to find a placement for the volunteer and to support them during their placement. All placement will be within Manchester and courses offered will be from Manchester City Council's coach education program. Manchester VSB has various funding streams and therefore aims to fully fund each and every volunteer with a qualification of their choice. Where possible Manchester VSB will attempt to support volunteers through employment, however it is not a guarantee of the program.
Volunteers must commit to logging their hours onto their personal page to ensure that funding is to be released for further qualifications, at present there is no limit on the amount of courses one volunteer can take part in, however they must agree to further hours if they wish to do more courses. Volunteers should regularly check their emails and profile to ensure that they do not miss out on opportunities. They can live outside of Manchester but must volunteer within Manchester itself. Volunteers can contact ManchesterVSB through the website or can ring the office on the number provided if there is limited access to internet.
Under the Data protection act (1998) we will not share any information with the placement provider, except for the volunteers name & contact details, their CRB number (for legal reasons), age and previous qualifications. It is then up to the volunteer how much information they give to the placement provider once they have began their placement.
Placement providers must commit to use the log in details provided to validate the volunteers logged hours truthfully when necessary. Failure to do this will mean that volunteers will not gain any funding.
